Air fittings

I would like to get more flow from my compressor for tools. Ive got a new hose, 1/4" bsp 10mm bore. Its longer than I need so I will cut in half with quick disconnects, not sure which to get.

I tryed some old-new parts but half of my joints were leaking. Half seem to be BSPP and the rest BSPT. Which is correct? Ptfe tape did not seal so a few got a thick gob of blue threadlock.

Are these wrong for air?

If you are starting from scratch, buy PCL XF fittings, screwfix are surprisingly cheap for them. They are high flow and fairly cost effective.
If you already have a bunch of fittings on your tool, then you will have to decide if it is worth upgrading them all, the standard PCL fittings are fairly restrictive by comparison.
What you can do is make up an adapter hose if you want to keep the old fittings on the less demanding tools.

BSPP is a parallel thread, BSPT is a taper thread. Parallel threads are designed to seal with a washer, where as taper threads seal by themselves. However, the female fittings can be BSPP, while the male fittings should be BSTP, so that when you screw the male in, it eventually jams up and seals nice and tight. You still want to use a bit of PTFE though.

I doubt you will need stainless fittings, just go with basic brass or steel ones, they will be fine.

Thanks I went to SF and got the PCL XF ones. Cant see any where selling hose tail type instead of bsp, are they available?

No hose clips in stock, so will odder something, what type are best, O clips?

jubilee clips got em on everything . even the oxyacetylene gear

They are available with a built in hose tail from specialist suppliers, but often its cheaper just to by the barb fitting separately.

O clips are best because they don't snag on things, but jubilee clips are fine, especially if you want to take it apart again.
