Air Nailer

Need to erect a large shed with the old man this Easter weekend and looking to speed things up as it'll need painting ASAP too. I trust Makita as a brand, are their air nailers any good? Recommendations please!

i was looking into this recently for the very same reason, loads of cheap air powered ones around so i was considering taking a chance dont see the piont in spending alot of money if its only for one job............................................................................................not that any of this answers your question

Was that a brad nail gun? I think I need a framing gun as I know I'll get some use out of that in the workshop in the future but I may have to bite the bullet and just get a Silverline disposable jobby...

I've had a £60 Makita AF505 brad nailer for a while, and it's pretty good.

With regard to building a shed, it would be OK for tacking stuff into place, but I'd still be driving screws in as well.

That model of Makita is top choice, I can't justify the cost of a Bostitch and wouldn't risk a secondhand purchase. It's only the tongue and groove floor and roof which needs nailing but it's well over 1000 before the felt/shingle tiles, the main structure is screwed.

I've just done a bunch of review hunting of the Silverline nailer range and am reminded of the promise I made myself years ago that I wouldn't buy another duff cheap air tool after an impulse cutoff grinder was needed to get me out of a fix. What a weak POS that turned out to be...

I used my Aldi brad/stapler to put a paling fence up next door and the idea was for the neighbour to get the job done quick then screw the palings on later. It was 8 years ago and he's only screwed a couple that got knocked off with kids football and games.

Seems odd to be bumping a question I asked three years ago but here we go again...

I didn't buy a brad nailer last time, indecision meant I was left with a hammer and a sore back. This time I'm looking at coil nailers as I have 200ft of closeboard fencing to erect. I have a small portable compressor that can wheel around the garden so looking at air (as opposed to gas or electric). Are the Tacwise brand that's all over eBay credible? edit: just seen the Dewalt uses 1.46L air per shot! Way too thirsty. I think I might just hire a Paslode 1st fix gun at £22.50 a day.

I have a hitachi 45mm coil gun, runs just fine on a small compressor, have done a lot of closeboard with it...

I have a similar unbranded one that shoots 50mm annular ring nails and its happy on a 3hp compressor. The biggest pain with mine is it uses an unusual collated nail and you have to buy a box of 10000 at a time.
