Air reciever tank

Evening guys. A quick question, I have a machinemart compressor, and drain it to empty when finished, and leave the drain valve open when not in use. In all your opinions, is it wise to do this or should I leave it charged with the drain valve obviously closed. Will leaving it vented open encourage rusting from the inside. Opinions much appreciated.

Leaving it open certainly won't cause any more rust.

I always open mine long enough to let the water out then close it, I don't see any point in wasting air as I use it on a daily basis.

just drained my twin pump compressor tank after 3 month .half a PINT of water and that was it

They normally get a bit of oil muck.on the bottom so it drains better when it's pressured, no need to leave open when not in use. Every now and then depressure tank and wash the muck out with boiling water.

Yep, just don't want too much that it get's in your air. I just use a few kettles full to wash most out. Depending on how much you use the compressor every 1 or 2 years is all I'd bother with.

i allways thought the crap thats in the bottom of the tank is proably going to stay there, my logic is thats what filters are for

Thank you for all your replies and advice to my question. As don't use the compressor everyday wasting air isntt too much of a problem, so I shall use all your advice to my advantage.
