Air Staple gun

Hello folks,

Need a bit of advice on a staple gun.
My requirements are;
it needs to accept staples 10-15mm long with a head of about 4/6mm (Im not sure on gauges of staples)
needs to be able to drive the staples through 1mm thick tin and then into wood.

Will most staple guns do this?

I got one in aldi 20 euros for it
It fires 18 guage nails or staples
Haven,t used it through tin but put staples
in alum 0.8mm no prob
Draper or Sealey do the staples for them

1 mm tin no problem for most staplers at highest penetration setting.

1.5mm and you'd start to have difficulty with lower power ones.

Hilti gun, that'll get you through about 5mm of steel!

I think a hilti would blow the work piece into pieces hehe
So most semi decent staplers will staple through tin.

i think the only problem is not holding the stapler hard down on to the surface,and it kicking back away from surface and not penitrating.

This will depend on the the velocity vs point pressure of the gun.

Higher velocity for harder (thinner) materials.
Lower velocity, higher pressure for softer (thicker) materials.

This is due to the way the materials react under the shock of the staple, things move out of the way slower in softer thicker materials and absorb high inertia shocks.

Hold it nice and tight and it'll be fine i reckon.

Right folks i bought a cheap staple gun and some 20gauge staples 10mm long.
The staples just disintegrate on contact with the tin.
Does that sound like a staple problem or gun problem?
I reckon a staple problem that they are too soft to penetrate the tin.
Anyone recommend some heavier duty staples in that size? AirSupplies?

Sounds like the gun has plenty of power, as said above you need some harder staples. 20 gauge is too thin, less than a mm.

Basically you are pretty much limited to stainless steel with staples (i'm sure you could make a harder staple but they arn't on the market)
So you need to go for 18-16 gauge (1.5mm area)

18g staples would be fine. 16g might be pushing the limits of most available guns. You might end up having to finish them flush with a hammer and punch.

We used to use the 18g staples and nails for wood but I've used a couple onto metal. The Dewalt cordless will happily fire 16g nails through 1.5mm galv.

Its a £20 silverline gun that says its designed for 20 gauge.
I imagine 18gauge would be too thick for it, would i be right?
