I am looking to put my compressor in my workshop and hard pipe supplies into the garage, is their a good mail order site people would recommend for fittings, valves etc.

I used John guest nylon pipe and fittings, found it easy to use and bought it from toolstation. They deliver if one not local to you.

Does it seal like the plastic water pipe?

It's just push fit and takes very little time to install, also easy to change at later date as it comes apart easily as well. I used 22mm from compressor into the other garage and then 15mm drop legs to my filter regulator and drain points. If you need any single pipe lengths you can find it on amazon, the fittings also work on copper pipe as I ran a single length of copper near compressor to help with air cooling.

i too used the stuff form tool station very easy and quick with no leaks! not all tool station branches stock it though , went to 3 and non of them had any so its best to order on line.

Is copper pipe an option for you? Most of your fittings can be picked up cheap from Screwfix etc.

Copper pipe is what i eventually went with as I had a toolbox full fittings and it was a 15% off day at homebase. I just need some adaptors for the PCL couplings now.

Wingback elbow is what you need to go from 15mm to a 1/2 bsp for fittings.

Would the pushfit seal against copper?

Yes I have used some copper pipe in my installation and the fittings work on copper, nylon and the aluminium pipe. You can get compression wingback elbows as well for gas fittings which would be as good and probably cheaper.

Pushfits tend to be designed to fit to plastic or copper, still a bigger fan of running air supplies via soldered copper myself.

The copper soldered joints are more air tight than plastic, and the copper does help to cool warm air from the compressor for the moisture trap.

The rest of the system is soldered copper as I have always preferred this method of jointing, once it is complete i will carry out a drop test on it.

My John guest push fit system holds air pressure from one week to the next as I only work on garage on a Saturday and often leave pipe pressurised. Push fit are now very common for plumbing and they don't leak, agree on the extra cooling with copper though.
