Air Tools in Lidl

Bought myself a die grinder, a nice compact unit. It has both 1/8" & 1/4" collets so I can now use the big selection of 1/8" tooling I have.

Also bought the air tool set, the blow gun & curly hose are going over at the lathe for cleaning it.

Got more of these swivel couplings.

I've these fitted to my existing die grinder and were an brilliant addition when I was using it under the car. They allow you to twist the grinder to any angle without the hose twisting.

I think I have half a dozen of the recoil (curly) hoses, the last company I worked at used to buy them as part of a kit and the hoses were surplus so were going to be skipped.

I don't normally like them but it will be the safest thing to use on the lathe as it will spring back out of the way so no chance of it getting caught in something spinning!

What about mounting it above the lathe so you just pull it down when needed?

Must admit, I was surprised how decent those manifolds seem. I expected the quality to be quite cheesy for the price, but they appear quite decent.

I used to do that until I noticed that I was blowing the swarf all over the wife's car, which shares the garage. Nowadays I keep a shop vac under the bench next to the lathe.

Yes they fit PCL XF fittings, they are compatible

Picked up 4 of the die grinders, the grinders themselves are great good power and nicely balanced, runs nice and smooth. The quality of the set of stones is not so good, I'd pick up some better quality consumables. I mainly use carbide burrs so I only got them for the grinder.
I picked up a long magnetic bar for holding tools, magnets are nice strength for it.

Anyone know if the die grinder will operate OK [albeit in short bursts] with the matching 25L compressor jobbie?

I mostly use the Rage power file but this could be handy for the odd corner etc. I feel a visit coming on , as I already have some small carbide burrs/milling cutters.

Or would something [say] like this be more useful?

I have one of those compressors & they are quite good for the price. I have an old chinese compressor which is nearly identical and it has served me well for many years & I expect the lidl one would do the same.
The lidl compressor got most use but when I was using air hungry tools I ran both compressors together via a 150l gas cylinder. You would run out of air but by that stage you were ready for a break!
I think the 25l & 50l lidl units have the same pump but I think you'll not get much time using a die grinder until you run out of air.

Now I have a 200l industrial compressor I have more air than I need, I just have to remember to take breaks now!

A tip for anyone buying one of these compressors - don't use the supplied oil! If you do it won't start in cold weather because the oil is too thick! Instead fill them with 10/30 or 15/40 engine oil.

The 2-Way Compressed Air Distributor come with a mini regulator (the blue thing) that works very well as a speed controller on sanders & die grinders!

From past experience with companies who supply to Lidl, in general, you can take comfort that the quality of the items they stock will usually be above what you expect to get for the price paid.

Take their wine or cereal as an example. Tesco will stock c10 different lines for NZ Sauv. Blanc, and 5 different lines for Corn Flakes, all at varying degrees of cost and perceived quality. If you buy cheap you expect to get crap, and it was your choice. In Lidl, they will stock one option for each, so the stock buyers are very picky about what goes on the shelves. This typically results in higher quality/cost compared to the bottom & mid brands stocked at Tesco.

In a nutshell- Lidl is usually cheap, but not usually nasty! And if it is guff and breaks then the air tools will be covered by their usual nae bother warranty aswell.
