Airmec compressor

Hi lads,

I am after a compressor for a while and I found one an Airmec CRM102 (100L).
So based on the info I could get it will be 11.33 CFM dispacement.
But I don't know the CFM FAD it is not specify.

Would it be crazy to consider it will be about 8 CFM for the FAD?

Basically, I want something for a bit of respray I don't have the gun yet so I could go for something low consumption. Like sealey gold or something like that.

I don't have a lot of budget, or room for it, my garage is very small.

With a 100L I suppose I could do panel by panel, I won't be able to do the whole car in on go anyway I am not an expert, I am learning

Any feedback is obviously welcome, I feel lonely on my choice.

Note the following taken from the compressor FAQ sticky in this section of the forum,

"Remember, when you're sizing your compressor, that 1 HP of compressor output generates about 4 CFM of compressed air at 90 PSI.

This is the accepted wisdom for air compressors over 10 HP. For DIY compressors under 10 HP, you must rely on the figures provided by the manufacturer or "guestimate" that you're getting around 2CFM of compressed air per HP @ 90 PSI."

Working on this guideline and given that the compressor you mention is a 2 HP machine you are looking at 4-6 CFM max.

It looks like a fair quality little machine with belt drive so the duty cycle should be ok.
As long as you work with it's limitations in mind it will do a reasonable job.
Bare in mind that you will need a water trap/filter for spraying.

Now I understand why people are saying that we need at least 3hp to spray.
I have contacted the main dealer about the CFM FAD.
About the gun I was looking at it is spec out 3cfm at 45psi and 7cfm at 90psi.
So I would assume I would have to spray at 45psi with such compressor.

Is there a potential problem to spray at lower pressure like that ?
I ll be looking at painting my classic car project with it.

If you think I should forget about this compressor, I ll no worries.

I'm not experienced with spray guns, I'm sure that others on the forum can provide good advice there.
There are HVLP guns though, High Volume Low Pressure, maybe that type would suit a smaller compressor. Even if they operate off a very small pressure that could be provided through a regulator.

HVLP guns actually consume more air than standard guns usually. The Sealey Gold is good quality and if you are using cellulose thinned 1:1 it will cope easily at 45psi doing a panel at a time. When I bought my compressor years ago the general consensus was that FAD is roughly 2/3 of total CFM for diy compressors. My compressor is a 3hp SIP direct drive which I have had for at least 15 years and it will recharge the 50l tank while my gravity gun is still spraying at around 50psi.

According to the pdf it is 11.33cfm and 2hp 145psi so should do what you want it to. FAD is usually about 2/3 total CFM as a rule of thumb for diy machines. It should work nicely with the Sealey Gold gun doing your job one panel at a time.
