This is an old school piece, designed by POMET Poznan in 70s, produced without major changes until almost now. A heavy duty industry compressor used in all sorts of applications such as locomotive brake systems or factory air supplies. The idiot proof, flawless legendary machine, submitting to all sorts of abuse, powering almost all serious communist industry needs without the need for rest apart from the maintenance.
Specifications:
Two stage air compressor
170m3/h with 22kw engine at 1440rpm
190m3/h with 24kw enigne at 1600 rpm (specially designed motor for this)
1:1 power drive through a rubber clutch also propelling the cooling fan
10 bar MAX
The Frame serves as a inititial reservoir - 130L
4 cylinders, the first stage 155mm x2, the second stage 82mm x2, 70mm stroke
Oil pump, conrods - plane bearings, crankshaft - ball bearings
Cylinder - iron cast, First stage pistons - aluminium, second stage - iron
Weight of the compressor alone 350kg
Weight of the whole package - 600kg
General overhaul interval - inital major inspections after 12000 work hours.
I bought it as a sort of a sold out after a bankrupt factory for 350 pounds. They had four of them for sale and I regret not buying one more. The frame is from 1985, the compressor unit - a new model from 1994 (the old one replaced by the factory in this year, so it makes 9 years of use), the new one has a better oil system, and was used until 2013 (almost 20 years). Very good condition, except for one of the big pistons seized after the inlet valve failure, they changed the valve, cleaned the mess and still used it, although oil loss must have been an issue so they discarded it. Otherwise, perfect piston ring gaps, perfect crankshaft. My plans, complete overhaul, I machined the 0cylinder bores, bought new pistons and rings, the crankshaft was ok so will use new bearings.
Some pictures, enjoy.
