So I've used this only ONCE since purchase and that was for blowing dust out of the back of a tv!

Thought I'd have a go with the little sandblaster just to key some old wheels for painting.

Plugged it in, switched it on, it hummed them died! Fuses aok. 230V in and out of the switch.

I'll look at the motor next but do these "jam" up? There's plenty of oil in it btw:

Might be worth taking the cowl off and seeing of there is a way to manually rotate the motor a bit then try again.

I have its Lidl cousin and it took a hissy fit last and wouldn't start for some reason? Power supply to the machine was OK. Too busy to investigate, so I left it and cracked on with something else [so much to do, so little time....].

When I tried again a couple of days later, it was it had never happened?

Make sure the tank is empty and open an outlet and try again. I have this problem with my SIP, pressure builds up in the delivery pipe (between pump & tank) and stalls the motor, there isn't enough volume in the delivery pipe and the unloading valve isn't up to the job.

Check if there is a cutout on the motor, and if so that it's reset.

I went straight for the 35mfd cap but that tested ok. Gave the motor fan a little twist by hand. It was actually the current overload on the side. Didn't realise you could reset it WITHOUT taking the cowl off!

First time I've blasted anything. Seems to be coming up OK? A little slower than I'd like. Doing it bare chested might not have been the best shout. My only concession to ppe was goggles and a mask. Itching like mad now so jumping in the shower.

Not finished yet by any means. It came with two small bottles of grit. Stole a sieve off SWMBO for a bit of recycling of it but running out now. Ebay I guess for a few kg? What grit do I look for?

Buy it by the 25Kg bag at least. J-Blast Supafine or crushed glass are my favourites.

This subject has been done to death on here, have a browse.

That finish doesn't look too bad for a small compressor and a that type of gun.

Is the spot blasting gun the Parkside from Lidl? How do you get on with it? Just asking as haven't had a lot of luck with mine, I can do one squirt and that's it and the nozzle seems relatively huge. Does the grit feed/flow in to it OK or do you have to keep giving it a shake?

I did change the air fitting to a regular PCL that is a lot lot smaller than the Euro (?) type it came fitted with.

I use fine/medium crushed glass but I also use a 90cfm diesel compressor to power my pot blaster

Those little compressors, had exact same ones, they may say 9.6 CFM on the side but they do less than 3 CFM in reality. They will blast a wheel though, very very slowly !!!

Tbh this is too slow and I've run out of grit anyway.

I emailed and asked Sodablast in Knockholt for a price to blast them but haven't heard back.

Anyone suggest a blaster in west Kent?

The CFM figure is the 'free air' which essentially means the flow volume at the intake, not the ability to compress air at pressure... unfortunately a fairly meaningless figure.

If you get an old Waterbutt or 200l plastic barrel, and cut off the bottom 1/3.
Put your wheel in it with some sharp sand/gravel, a cup of citric acid powder and half a bucket of water.

Vibrate the barrel with a sander, or (my preference) a flabelos type vibrating exercise machine, for about an hour and it'll come up sparkling.

for a constant use buy a belt drive unit not direct. pref a 14cfm

Sodium hydroxide will do that. I had a steel oven tray that was caked in crud. I put it in a basin with moderately strong NaOH solution and left it (I forgot about it, actually). When I went back to it, it was as clean as a whistle.
