Aldi Ferrex tools

Just a heads up that apparently they’ve discontinued the batteries but are still selling the tools. I think it may only be the 40v ones but I’m not sure. You can’t even buy them online. Worth bearing in mind if you’re tempted to visit the middle aisle of mystery.

The rumour is the batteries/chargers have a possible fault.
Leading to failour of one or the other.

Or worse catching fire, nothing on the Aldi portal as to why.
But BAFE have been squeeking about it for a whille.

There is a chance the will be back as soon as the saftey issues can be fixed.

I have eight of the 40v batteries and not had any issues, all bought at different times

Our Sprinkler enginneer has had issues, all swoped out under warrenty. I was working with him and we found one battery was getting warm. Took it out of the charger and left it, then it was ok.

It does annoy me when manufacturers change battery systems but don’t support their older kit.

Thats why Bristol Batteries do a good trade in those type of batteries.

Local one has had the 20/40v batteries for the last few months but I havent been in for two weeks, might have pulled them.
I did notice the recent tools on web are grey/black instead of the blue, hint they are not compatable? Aldi has had a few different battery systems.
Aldi 20v tools will work on lidl 20v team batteries, or any 5S li battery, with a little adaptor for the 3rd pin.

I bought some Ferrex tools when the first came out, the drill struggled with a 40mm hole saw so I gave the lot to a friend

In Aldis defense i did buy the 18V cordless drill a while back when it was the Titan range and being in the van it gets abused bad but wont die. They then changed to the Ferrex brand with different battery's and thats when i pulled the plug and moved back to Dewalt.

Lidl briefly sold a different system but they have always had the 12v team/ 20v team since they were released. I think theres quite a few variations/version updates. The new ones list balance charging on the box, but Id call it a safety issue if any of them did not balance charge! That might be the aldi problem, it takes a while before it'll have problems.

I've used the lidl 12v/20v stuff for years, i don't have serious work for cordless tools so they are good enough for me. They sell the batteries separately regularly, had them about a month or 6 weeks ago. They sometimes sell the tools battery less too.

They do but they are built to a price for them including tool station and have weaker internals. They appear to be the same but there are that many model numbers for a similar item you can get caught out.

I was tempted, but i'll stick to my lidl cheapies so !

Screwfix always seem to have special offers on Dewalt and Bosch drills.

We just tried a set of dewalt drills that were on special offer at screwfix a while back.
Absolute garbage....just was more annoying as I have 3 sets of drills like those @doubleboost gives away but each of the 4.5mm have broken.

Maybe, I have no need to buy any.
But their after market Dewalt and Bosch batteries are quite good.
