Aldi Shears

Bought the Aldi air shears the other week. Made a short test cut ok.

Yesterday was cutting a piece out of sheet taken from the back door of a Transit and they asploded two cuts 50mm long, went for the third cut and nothing.

Quickly stripping them down reveals a weedy splined drive has broken one of the splines off.

Is it worth sending them back to powercraft or just buying a decent make?

Any ideas for a decent make? I'm not going to make my living with them*, just for weekend use.

I'd go to Aldi and ask for your money back. They may be a bit sniffy if they realised you've taken them to bits though.

What did you expect for the price? Sling em back, get your money back & spend some more on a decent make...as for decent makes I'm not sure, but I would of thought around 3 or 4 times that price (which is still cheap when all said & done) would get you pretty reasonable quality

if youve had it for less than 28 days and still have the receipt theyll exchange it or give you a refund, if youve lost the reciept you could always buy a new one and do a little shuffle if ya get my drift

I just bought a sand blasting type Aldi spot cleaner. I hope my small compressor is powerful enough to drive it. I also bought a pair of metal cutters for less than £5 - not air driven so little to go wrong. I hope that both tools fair better than the air cutter.

Only thing you can't go wrong on from Aldi's is seat covers, dust sheets, and pie's...

Tut tut guy You are naughty
All electrical and some mechanical items in Aldi and Lidl have to meet The german TUV standard
Its like the BSI standard but It means something -most Items have to have a 3 year warranty???? also if it has the Gut mark on it this is like a which magazine best buy I think 1 is the highest. So go to Tesco or Asda? Warranty is thet a free gift in the packet or something.
So Mate take it back for swop or Dosh

I don't think I can find the receipt, and despite being the only people in the country who sell powercraft, no receipt = no exchange

But! The powercraft air drill uses the same body and drive motor! So, one head swap later, I have a working air shear.

And, it's crap

I acquired a cheep air-drill of ebay not long ago, so I'm ok for a decent drill. But still going to have to buy a quality shear.

I like these ,easy for radius .mini shear......some prefer nibblers others shears ,roller works for my car stuff ...Gav

I bought an Aldi air shear about 3 months ago in a special. Initially it worked well but after feeding it some 2mm stainless, it responded by destroying its gears. I was expecting it to just stall, but there we are. Service agents say at least a four week turnaround, not that it would be a problem so take it back to the store. However, they were on a special and the website now says that they are discontinued.

I have now made matters worse (because I have some bits to cut asap) of buying the only one off Amazon that should arrive today. It's only a piggin' Silverline. ;-)
