My name is Lono. I've been browsing around on this forum and found some great information. My hat off to all who love to share their knowledge unselfishly.

I'm a refrigeration & air conditioning contractor for 22 years and I'm still learning while I've welded projects from time to time. I haven't tried to weld aluminum with my MIG, but I'll search the archives first. Particularly, I'd like to use the Magnum 100sg spool gun on my Weld Pak 3200HD. I know I'll have to do a conversion since I've been studying some of the electrical schematics.

Welcome to the forums

If the 3200HD does not have a removable torch, you'll have to modify the machine. Probably running the motor wires out through a switch and tying the spool gun power and trigger wires.

You should be able to do aluminum with the regular gun if you use 0.035 4043 wire or 0.030 5356 wire. The 0.030 4043 is too soft to feed well.

You also need a bigger tip as the wire expands more (0.035 tip for 0.030 wire.)
