Hi all. I need to repaint a Honda c50 sprocket cover silver. It's made of aluminium, and I was wondering if I need to use any special sort of primer to make the paint stick. I'm sure someone will know!
Upol Acid#8. Can be had in rattle cans or by the litre, ready to use so no waste. Can be bought at Halfords (at a premium), or any good paint supplier.
It can be topcoated directly, or covered with another primer if needed. I've used lots of this stuff and it really does work well, some etch primers are a bit thin and require activated thinner (tetrosyl springs to mind) and run like an olympian!!
Best to find a decent paint place mate. Apart from that place being a rip off you are liable to get an electric shock as you brush by the Chavs with shell suits to get to the counter..LOL!
I've used hammerite special metals primer on both aluminium and galvanised steel.
Works very well and thin it with water. Smells a bit strange and it's a deep red colour (like lead oxide) so takes a fair bit of covering with a top coat. Nice and easy to clean spray gun out with water too. Suitable for brushing straight from the tin and I used a litre on my galvaniser Land Rover chassis.
Not that cheap ~£10 litre, but no fancy activators required.
