Which "aluminium stick rods"?I was given these aluminium stick rods, has anyone on here ever used them, I'm curious how they go, I imagine awfull, I doubt I'll ever use them
Crazy money now never mind then, while on the subject of old things I called into mallusk engineering yesterday on the scrounge for some stock bar and a chat they are closing shop In September, i would say there isn't one of them under 60 and there's no one coming through to replace them, they are busy and always have been, be sad to see it closeI remember vaguely something being available years ago ,,, I tried a couple when I was working in refrigeration for compressor housing repairs ,, but either they were crazy expensive or I got porosity but either way we wound up using a welder out towards Larne , a nice guy who collected military vehicles Anderson springs to mind , but he was charging 100 pounds an inch for tig back then , I think I was on about 120 a week ,,, so just give them a go , very low amps I seem to remember .

If I was a machinist yes, I was just talking to a guy that runs another shop with mainly manual machines who is also flat out but can't get the men, most if their work is shut downs/break downstime for a take over ,,,, in you step

I went on a welding course at Stubbs Warrington many years ago. Came home with more than a newly acquired welding skill...Very difficult to sustain any sort of arc.
On reflection perhaps some pre heat might have helped.
Would I buy any now? No...
