Has anyone used ground anchors or retaining wall anchors ? How do they work and where to get them , i know the concept just need to know where and how ? Thanks in advance
We built quite a large retaining wall around a tennis court, there were starter bars sticking out of the concrete behind the wall, as the wall was built wall ties were dropped over the bars into the cement bed of the brickwork, the back of the brickwork was then haunched in concrete. The foundation then became part of the brickwork and haunching, hope this makes sense.
Depends on the loads and the ground conditions.
Only real diy option I can think of is the Platipus type anchors which are driven in with a percussion drill or jackhammer then set and tested with a jack.
Other anchors take more specialist kit to install unless it's just digging a hole and filling it with concrete.
In essence the bigger the load and the worse the ground condition the bigger the kit required.
Biggest anchors I've seen could take 800t each before breaking, the smallest a few 100 kgs.
I had to install some Platypus anchors on a railway development. They are damned expensive and hard work to install - especially when you're trying to drive them through blitz bomb rubble
If you use them don't forget that they are left hand thread and un-screw them down the hole. That's not very much fun.
