hope you dont mind me posting the following.

there are already a handful of mini me's of the angel of the north (6ft tall), they're made of cast iron and were cast at a local foundry....by all accounts the foundry owner has one in his back garden.

As an artist, I see a lot of art and from all different levels, and much of the time the beginners attempt to make the entire thing in one go, whether it be sculpture, painting, drawing an outline etc. With your chosen ‘muse’ (!) you’ve got quite an easy ride I dare say as the sculpture is sectional.

I’d try and make a drawing first and then make a model from card to see the parts you’ll need to assemble. I believe the sculpture was built to echo the shipbuilding of the area so why not employ a similar approach to that of model balsa ships - a good set of plans to start with.

This is just a hobby , scrap metal laying around, if I was to go down the route of planning and buying materials , and labour on the job there would be no money in it . This is all about making something out of nothing.chill

Unfortunately your assurance of my income is misguided - I don’t make a living out of art, however I do try to produce things to the best of my ability - I was merely offering advice on how to do so.

I was asked to make a smaller copy of this a few years ago for a Premier League footy player, Andy whotsiname related to Lewis. A pig of a job but a good result. The wings come off for shipping.
he was meant to go in Hello magazine but I heard that Gormley's legal crew put stop to that. I admit to being a bit ashamed of such blatant copyism, but needed the cash and liked the challenge.
Gingle' take your time and if you get stuck leave it alone for a few hours; it might fix itself while you are not looking.

I've made a few over the years ...big ones with 5 foot wings and smaller at around 3'4" wings. I designed all the parts (over 100) on the PC and then cut them out on my CNC machine. I actually have 4 sets cut out ready for welding up but I've now retired so they are unlikely to become new Angels!!

Give him a scrub with strong salty water and washing up in the evenings and he will soon get a nice rusty layer
