i occasionally drill 22mm holes in 40x8mm flat at an angle of anything up to 45-70 degrees off the vertical!this is very time consuming as I use home made guide blocks in conjunction with a magnetic drill!and weld the guide block in a new position for each hole?the bar i am drilling is too long to place in a m/c btw. Does anyone have a quicker more efficient method of boring this type of hole?

Could you attach your magnetic drill to an adjustable angle block, and then clamp the block to the work piece ?
Most adjustable milling machine angle blocks come in a variety of sizes, and have a degree scale to set the desired angle at the hinge. Here is a photo of one.

How do you mean? How the bar is clamped? It has stepped jaws, so the bar won't move, I've held sq tube, doesn't move

Im sorry you have completely lost me. Your initial post said
The photo shows just that. And so long as you control the feed rate, it wont grab, its a case of the more you do the easier it gets
So whats the curve bar bit
with curves, a lot depends on machine, radius of curve and where you are trying to put the hole.

You need a Geka that will punch slotsCurved & straight braces,in gates.welderpaul - I have a kingsland with slot punches but if you punch a curved bar you lose the profile slightly.& due to the punch going thru at 90 degrees when you assemble the gate and slide the bars thru you end up with gaps around the bar top & bottom diagonally and then end up fiddling with a die grinder to correct it.

When i did gates i punched the flat bars first, then rolled them. As long as the slotter is the correct length, the weld hides the slot edges.
To me, there isn't/wasn't enough money in gates to faff about drilling them on an angle.

I've always found bars kink when you pre roll them. I like to pass the bars thru and leave them un welded .When i did gates i punched the flat bars first, then rolled them. As long as the slotter is the correct length, the weld hides the slot edges.
