Another daft Sunday project with my boy

This weekend my 6 year old asked if we could make a robot hand claw. Now a sane person would go out and spend a fiver on a plastic toy but not me. Instead I've probably spent four times that on gas, electricity rods and paint but then it did keep us out of other forms of mischief for 5 hours.

So he did a drawing on the white board and nope, two claw design is not sufficient. Instead he wanted 5 fingers!



So then work begun

Please excuse the welding, I have broken every rule in the book. Wrong tungsten, no prep or cleaning wrong filler rods but hey ho we are on a tight schedule.

Top work anything to get kids out from tv and I pads, and thinking problem solving and working to build something is excellent.
Keep up the good work we need many more young engineers who can think and build projects.
I remember building a small go-cart based on an old Suffolk lawn mover engine one summer in the early 80's with dad.

Nice one. I'm trying to get kids involved in my workshop but till too young. The two year old is just about starting to at least hang around and watch.

Winchboy has just got an apprenticeship, one thing they commented on was all the stuff he had done at home proving his interest in engineering.
So many kids and adults cant and have no interest in fixing or making stuff.

That's how my brother got a job at a top aero company even though his degree was from an average uni, they liked that he 'lived" engineering.

It's how both my brother and I were brought up. Dad always welcomed us in his garage to make or modify almost anything from a young age.
I knew from an early age what my career path would be and where to focus my attention.
