seing as a few others had made some i thought i would post a couple of pics of mine.
luckily i mangaed to get the 10 ton ram and pump for £50 from a mate at a cash n carry that were happy to be rid of them at the time so all i needed to do was manufacture the frame.
a local rsj supplier had some offcuts he let me have for £30 and i paid a blacksmith to cut an rsj in a fashion so i could insert a pipe that became my ram clamp.









than after a lick o paint i fitted the hydraulics and hey presto.





i really should chain it to the wall as it weighs loads...

Bit OTT for a 10 ton ram. For that frame you need more like a 30. My bought 20 ton press is nowhere near as heavy as that one.

true but better to be overkill then not enough and the total build only came to £100
ironically thinking about it at the time as a novice welder i was concerned that where i had cut and shut the top piece of RSJ it might be weak.

Certainly up to a 10 ton ram if worried you could box it in. But that adds more weight. While on the subject of weight there will come a time you will need to move it because a job demands it.

I doubt they hold the ram in!!

If you look under the top rsj piece there is a cranked casting. These are screwed on to the ram to use as a spreader. I would asume James has used this to stop the ram pushing through.

they don't, they just stop it from dropping down look at the bottom of the ram there is an attachment screwed on that stops it pushing upwards

Those beams won't bend at 10 ton.

apologies for late reply, looked like you guys sussed it out anyway quite right the three screws are there to stop the ram falling out and to keep it centered.
theres a big cast threaded peice that screws onto the bottom to stop it pulling through.

to be fair i only use it for diy car stuff so doesnt get used very often, so hopefully wont have to move it anytime soon but if that day comes i might have to give a shout for some help
