Another job for River Island

They wanted soem curvy stands for their chrimbo display.
We had a ten minute meeting and I went off to develop my idea. I made a sample and loved it so did they.
I priced it wrong and felt it right to drop the price by 1/3 (still really well paid) and they ordered more,~
These range from 2.5m to 4m tall. All made of 30x5mm hot rolled strip.
I was so pleased I'm making myself a pair for the garden.
I was worried about them not being solid enough but by having the braces half under tension and half under pressure they are rock solid up to 4m high.
Thinking like an engineer now.

Love em! they are all freestanding on a 400mm base plate, some look way off balance which I planned in.
To make them I had a brainwave, weld the strips together and roll them as a pair starting at the tops

Quite a quick process and really satisfying watching the strips sliding along eacg other as the curves are set.

It's been a real lifeline.
Every couple of years I get a call 'can you make...' or these days it's Al, you are making .....'
Two years ago it was this. Initial order was for ten then they kept ordering another ten. I ended up making sixty of them. Would have been worth getting the leaves laser cut; but not for a small batch

First order was for a 2,5m tall stilleto shoe. Not me says I.
the brief was 'Like F are you not doing it, you have the skills and the talent now XXXXXXXX get on with it'

I am, damned lucky that he would not take no for an answer.
A great guy to work with.
designers tell him what they want, he tells what they will get and am told to do it.
these days i get a lot more say in matters.
Another quote from my Man 'this is your budget; £xxxxxxxx, ballocks is it' and he upped it by a third on the spot.

Purely due to their supplier, ie you delivering on time, on budget, what you said you would - so they come back, and a good buyer (from them) knows he needs to pay a good supplier for good work so they continue to do it, especially if he knows (from your price reduction) you aren't ripping them off simply because they are a big company but won't necessarily know what is right or wrong for such stuff. So good on you.

Whereas today I had to deal with yet more after-effects of a not quite so good buyer (ours) starting to **** off a supplier I want to use.
