Well i have been offered for free an old BOC ADR 300 machine it has been standing for a few years i have been reading different things on the net i thought it might be a good idea to ask for some advice before wiring it up and trying the machine maybe take of the panels and inspect the guts. i am a time served electrician but i spent 40 years in refrigeration eng so i a little rusty on what to look for inside a machine like this, i have an old aluminium sports car i want to restore hence the interest in tig welding. so we start with i know nothing. andy b

I'd clean the switches and rheostats.

Check the large capacitors for leakage.

These old beasts will need a big power feed.

Boc adr 300

Well it has arrived before i switch on there is a small part which is burnt out
i have lubed up all the moving parts switches ect and given it a blow out with the air line i am a complete novice with this form of welding tig that is so where do i begin, where can i get a manual

Hi mr Lotus 30. Don't know much about Tig's but if the part thats urnt out is that in pic 3 (looks about 1" by 1/2" just below the green wire wound resistor) it look to be a capacitor prob a milar one for suppression. If you are caerful then you may be able to read the markings on it and get a replacement from that info (google/ebay)

yes found the part on flea bay £4:20p for 5 not bad I still need advice on testing the machine for the first time
