hi well i am a professional car valeter trying to make it as a mechanic/ welder, done a few little bits of welding in the past but not alot, so might be asking some stupid questions while on here,

i will have my project 106 in the projects thread very very soon.

thanks been very lucky there, he is a very generous person. i have looked all over for a welder on ebay, asking friends, machine mart etc but my fiance going mad saying we have got more important things to buy so i am really greatful i can get started on my 106 project/demo car. thanks again Ian

You had a play yet Ian? That gasless wire is not nice to use, swap it for the solid and have a go with the little bit of gas in that bottle. If I were you, I'd go down the road to *removed for legal reasons* at Haydock and get ya self a bottle of Co2. Nice and cheap, only a tenner to refill, lasts ages and no rental. It's great when on a budget, that's all I use now and it welds no problem, thick, thin or even very thin! Don't forget you'll need some contact tips to suit each wire size.
Just remembered, you don't have a mask yet. Sorry.

no its fine, ive ordered a mask and gloves off the internet and they should be here tomorrow so i shall be starting it hopefully if they do arrive and its not raining, what wire would i use to weld a big bore exhaust onto my car? thats going to be one of my first jobs to attempt

Well if it's mild steel you've got a choice of 3 there. I'd have a go with the .6 first, try and get the join touching right round. Have you got gas yet? I doubt there will be much left in the little bottle, I used it for about 5 minutes on the tig so it must be close on empty. To be honest mate, I wouldn't bother with the gasless wire at this stage. It might put you off welding. Oh, and if you do swap wire, don't confuse the ally with the gasless, they look alike.
