Another one of my Creations

Last summer I made this, it's a three in one wood burning cooking contraption. A spit roaster, BBQ and food smoker. Not being very experienced in welding I cut and riveted most of it together and the reserved the welding for parts of the spit roast mechanism.

For those that are interested balancing meat on the spit is very difficult so I made a location device with eight holes and pin to hold the meat in 8 positions while turning.

I have used this many times in all three modes and it works a real treat.

If the weather holds up this weekend I will be making a miniature version of this for a mate so he take stick it in the back of his Landy and take it to work, he's a tree surgeon and keeps me supplied with good quality logs

on first glance i suspected it wad a bbq/smoker but the spit is a good addition. Need to slap some vht paint on it though or the heat cycling will rust it quite quickly

Paint arrived this week. Will be using it for this and the stove cooker I've made. Just need a break in this proxy weather !

Just a wee note on the propane bottles, they are galvanised with zinc which will burn off with a toxic fume leaving a white residue and at high temp a white, stringy smoke will be given off. Before starting a project like a stove its a good idea to grind the zinc off. As it burns away it may lift you new paint or worse poison you!

I find it easier to build a fire around the bottle with wood inside when I make these and wood burners from old bottles, then just wire brush off whilst wearing a dust mask

One of my neighbours (an idiot) made a gas bottle woodburner.
he fitted it in his caravan where we could see it through the window.
It did look kind of cool in it's calor paint job.
Plonker.
I missed it's first ignition.
Nobody warned him that the paint and galv would burn off.
Plonkers get what they deserve sometimes.
But he did know everything.

when i made mine i just lit it and let it burn for a few hours to get the paint and galv off, when it had cooled down went rround it with a cup brush in a drill
