While looking for wedges I came across these, are they just general purpose or for a specific job? Seem well made

They are 5" long and the open section is 5/8".

Also found these old brass plates:

Think they made washing and dry cleaning equipment. Suspect they were kept as they are brass.

I use a lump hammer.

Couple of good cracks, one if you're lucky, on the end of the arm and the taper pops free, no (morre) damage to the boot.

Mention it on a car forum and all the people who only take their cars to garages tell you why its a terrible idea and sure to lead to multiple deaths in a firey accident . . . not knowing of the selection of lump hammers their chosen mechanic has

Well done. I've had this since 1991 and always thought that it was a small drill for, perhaps, pcbs. The bob weights providing momentum as you span it between your fingers.
I discovered its true use a few days ago looking for information about something else.
