Keep your eyes on the likes of Facebook and gumtree anything on the bay is likely to be overpriced.A bit of a Hi Jack, but where can I get a decent anvil, the usual on line selling sites seem hugely expensive?
No, I just put it there for the picture - I haven’t actually got the forge running yet.I hope you are not using that nice planishing hammer to bash steel
make one my dear manA bit of a Hi Jack, but where can I get a decent anvil, the usual on line selling sites seem hugely expensive?
The hole under the beak is for a strap to hold it down
These blokes talk about the hole here but I have seen a strap made then stuck in the hole the other end secured.
Neither was I until I saw a few anvils secured using the holes and a strap to the tree trunk, if they are used for manufacturing why don't al anvils have them? Mine has them.I was under the impression that hole is there for use during the construction process. So you can manipulate a huge heavy red hot lump of iron. I'm sure you could use it for holding down but I am not convinced that's what it's for.

Good point which is better?I think it depends if the anvil is forged or cast.
I would make brackets to use the two holes or chain it to the very nice stand, I think I would place the lot on a slice of log to save damaging the floorView attachment 164994 I have built a stand for my 50kg Stourbridge anvil. I still need to figure out how I will clamp the anvil to the stand, so it’s not quite finished yet.
