I know asking you lot for advice on spending money is asking for trouble, but here goes anyway…

I’ve been following this on leboncoin and made an offer that’s been rejected, he wants 180 euros for it which is a bit steep (I bid 135), but should I buy it? I haven’t seen one before but apparently they’re for sharpening scythe blades.

I would pay £100 for it all day long over here, but then I would use it daily. Mount it lower and use as a striking anvil.

Unless anyone has a big chunk of steel they want out of the way?....

I’ve got an anvil, there’s just something about this I quite like, certainly don’t need it. BTW it’s apparently 35kg. Monsieur @pressbrake1 is already making me a pair of squares, I can’t afford to give him any more money at the moment, but I would dearly love a Portsmouth pattern anvil

where I lived in SW France that would be a bargain....
ur offer was fair but most frogs are A holes......
for a med to large proper anvil with a horn and I mean totally ******** was €700 take or leave it......
I went back at the eng of the day and offered 150....he said no...so waited 1/2 hr to watch him load it in his van......
hahaha....best laugh I had for weeks....u could have heard me laugh 1/2 mile away.....

Hell yes. That's very good value for such a useable and beautiful item.

Looks like about 50-60kg from here with a brilliant surface. Even if you really want a London pattern in the long term, I'd snap that up and trade it in later if you can bear to part with it.

@Mick Annick , even if you hate the idea of Farcebook, get an account, just to access FB Marketplace.

I've seen a few large anvils at 250 - 300, just don't need one.

Ok, you've got an anvil. Just up your offer, if you really want it.

Thats huge for peening scythe blades the ones ive seen are tiny in comparison to that. I think thats another type of anvil. i may be wrong though.

like most free-ad websites descriptions are to be taken with a pinch of salt, buyer beware and all that!

It's not a traditional anvil shape, and doesn't have the pointy bit, but I reckon €180 ain't a bad price at all

Looks to be in excellent un abused condition, and not a very common item. You just have to ask yourself, if you want one of these later on, where or when are you going to find another; and is the quality worth the asking price ?
