Any clues on this little compressor?

Hi all

I brought this a few days ago on flea bay for under £20 as i needed a small compressor for charging up a pressure pot for resin casting.
(im a model maker)

there was no details about it and chap i got it off has no clue.
For me it looks to be better than i hoped as it can also vacuum.

My main questions are the basics of how it works
and what oil should i use as i can see a sump plug would it be sae30 like normal compressor?
And lastly what would it of been used for? was it an old airbrush one or for refridgeration?

Sip, Sealy, do compressor oil, SAE 40 low carbon build up.
We use a Castrol product in ours, good idea to change it people rarely service compressors
Mite pay to pop the valves & clean as well

Looks like a portable unit so I would say airbrush rather than refrigeration.

It may also have been part of a test rig, a friend of mine uses a compressor & vacuum pump for testing glider instruments.

I would guess for vacing and charging refridgeration circuits on site.

I am confused at what no1 does as you can unscrew it. is this an air intake or presure release?

Ive got some sae compressor oil for my regular compressor and ineed new
seals for where the no2 arrows show as old ones crumbled as i undone the bolts.the origionals were fibre should i replace with the same or rubber ?

No3 both sides have a drain plug on the bottom i take it this would be to drain moisture out?

sorry for all the questions but id rather ask than risk injuring or blowing myself up with compressed air

1 is safety valve. 2 i would use copper washers. 3 i would thing is where you put the oil!

Regards to no3 just to be sure do you mean put oil inside the piston parts?
if so just a few drops every now and then.

Would the main sump not supply those areas with oil.

Those cylinders on each side are aftercoolers, small finned resevoirs to cool the air and smooth out pulsations in the air. The plugs on the bottom are to drain condensation out.

The piston is in the central finned part, the oil filler will be in the sump below the piston. It may be a combined filler & level plug.

i would go with kemppifrog, looks like 1 guage is probably pressure and one vacuum, if that is the case you can remove the after /pre cooler on the intake side and just fit an air filter straight to it

That makes sence thank you. one last question the taps on the front when using it do i need both taps open or close or 1of each depending wether i need air or vacume?

This is what i will be connecting to it for my resin casting.

Ive order my air line connectors now ill just have to wait for the postman

The vacuume gauge is a bit of a giveaway as to what it was used for, when you have replaced the leaky washer, shut the valve marked no 2 and see how low a vac it can pull, then switch off and see for how long it can keep the vacuume without the pressure rising, that will give you a good indication on how good the valves seal.
