We have a static caravan fitted with that well known boiler, MORCO. Well at least it’s British as far as I can determine.
Anyhow, the thing has blown the circuit board and I’m being fobbed off by M (in my opinion) saying that the failure is due to a power surge. Not unheard of, I know, but consider the following:
1) Western Power have confirmed that no power surges have been recorded in the area since last September.
2) The boiler itself is protected by a 3A fuse which is fine. There is a 4A fuse on the board itself which is blown.
3) The RCD on the consumer board did not trip.
Its impossible to get past reception in M to try and speak to their technical department. They’re just a mouthpiece for the company and won’t even give out anyone’s email so you can strike up a dialogue.
The receptionist told me this morning that they would not consider a warranty claim (It’s 18 months into a 2 year warranty) since the failure was due to power surge. The capacitor involved only fails due to this factor (utter carbage). When I pointed out about dielectric breakdown, mechanical handling damage, excessive heat from soldering etc, the stance was that their technical manager of 38 years standing refuses to accept any other reason for failure other than power surge.
So it’s cost me nearly £300 to get it replaced and I‘m damned if I’m going to roll over and take the carp from M without a fight.
Has anyone had any dealings with M or their products and have a way in for me to speak with someone technical who can consider my claim more professionally?
Here’s the offending article; note the black scorching to the right of the blue component below the fuse holder. That’s a green capacitor.
