Any now how to convert a 110v generator to 240

someone gave me a 6kv 110v gen ive found the manual online but still have no real idea has anyone on here have a clue it's a markon sl105 :-)

basically there are 2 windings, currently connected in parralel to give 110V, so if you want 240V you need to connect the windings in series to get 240V but a lower current compared to the 110V setting. this is still all relative to the 6kv rating though so still the same overall power

Connect the windings exactly as described in the diagram (bottom right), if you connect them out of phase you'll get 0v out.

Connecting them in parallel (bottom left) out of phase then you'll burn the windings out.

Yeah i get that but I pulled the back off and there's so many wire I'm not sure what the windings wires are will they ne of the brushes or the outside windings :-/ lol

Need to find someone that's knows I had a little Google and ask some rental shops but no one seems to know

is this a chinese 6kw alternator? If so, the excitation goes via the brushes, the power comes out of the fixed windings.

Funny, I have a 6kva belt drive alternator sitting in my workshop as well. Came off a road tow compressor.

Look for labels on the terminals or sleeves near the ends of the wires. In any event label the wires and take loads of photos before disconnecting anything.

Those are the connection to the AVR. are there another set of connections where the output leads connect?

Some you can't alter as they are designed only for 110

Markon are UK based. All the gennies I used to fix (Listers mostly) were as you indicated, the spinning bit excites, the stator provides the power.

Edit: Had a couple of ONAN 6kva units to sort out on yachts. They were wired for either 110v or 220v and not difficult to change. IIRR they were 110-NEG-110, so switching the wiring gave one 220v.

Bah the easiest way is wire it up to a yellow site transformer but switch the primary for the secondary to make it a step-up instead of a step-down.

The best way (and cheapest) is to set the links as per the diagram in the 1st post. You may need to change the output socket though, if there is one.

There's nothing here just the 3 wires

on a 110 / 240 there are 4 wires 2 x 110v which go to a switch to that changes sockets and configuration of the 2 110 coils
