had a realy manky old oilstone that was caked with years of grime
so i gave

it a good soaking with alloy wheel cleaner "the stuff that goes red with brake fallout " absolutely amazingly it turned red probably years of blades being honed on it it loosened all the grease too and is cutting now as it should

I found that soaking them in paraffin or WD 40 then wiping of the loosened gunge is also a way of restoring them as well.

if there worn rub it up on a concrete paving slab and it will be as good as new you can get them for peanuts if they are worn

I have done a fair few.
The course ones.
Boil in washing powder. Be sure to keep the base of the pan.

Medium to fine. Engine degreasers, paraffin or turps.

Fine to super fine.
Steep in meths.


Worn ones can be converted in to curve blades or gouge stones.


Car boot in the summer I got 30 stones for £10.

20 come with a box as well.
