Any Such Thing As A Quiet Sandblasting Dust Extractor? Or DIY Sound Reduction Baffle Cabinets?

I've had a look but can't see anything, perhaps I've missed something?
Also looked at DIY sound baffle, noise reduction cabinets.
Anything out there that would be suitable for a 100L belt drive compressor and a cabinet to put a noisy dust extractor in?

Im just making sure I'm understanding your post -

You can hear the sound of the extractor over the noise of the compressor?

The compressor is by itself in the current location is a noise problem. I have found the SIP QT100/10 low noise compressor, " innovative quiet system offers 59dB operation. " if I bought that, would make my current compressor redundant. To avoid that, I looked at noise reduction diy cabinets but couldn't find anything that would do the job for a 100L belt drive. Also the dust extractor is quite large, again the noise in the current location is a problem, could not find a low noise extractor, so looking at possible making a sound reduction cabinet for that.

I have an 10kva ,open frame, single cylinder, air cooled, 3000rpm diesel genny i plan on making an enclosure of sorts to quieten it down, so that will be an interesting read!!

Sandblasting is an inherently noisy process.

No experience of that compressor - but usually belt drive units are quieter and longer lived than direct drive.
An induction motor extractor unit will be a lot less noisy than the shop-vac type machines.
However, I think it is largely going to be a case of diminishing returns - better to just stick on some ear defenders, get it blasted quickly and call it a day.

If it is a neighbour issue, soundproofing the workshop would be a better investment.

there is a really quiet dust extractor by harvey gyro air it uses speed and spin technology like the rocket stove and also the dyson other companys are also moving over to the vortex side of things

you have 2 issues with compressors the noise and also keeping them cool while in use

building channels attenuates the sound before the compressor as the air is being pulled in

keeping them cool a good chunk can be done with channels this can be done by flags and blocks or brick built

but can be built in layers


the longer the channel the better for cooling the air and a brick can be built within them for 16" flags or 20" you need to stand the brick sideways in the middle

blocks are 8" + cement so 9" high bricks are 2" on a 2 flag system you will have a good airflow through it

water can be added through a simple padding and a pump for summer time through evaporate cooling which will then cool the air even more remember low air inlet you need a metal grid to stop mice getting into the system for the top if outside you need a bird stopper

now with me id use the evap per level drop further cooling the water but use running water over the flags so it cools the water per drop but also cools the compressor or incoming air but you need to drain the water out often as that water cannot remain still and needs to be replaced often with new fresh water

flags can be sealed if you cut an angle and then cement them with waterproof cement

build a shed over it

insulate it out with wall rockwool this will deaden the sound but you need to cover over the insulation with a cloth as you dont want that insulation stuff being taken into the compressor

and further adding sound channels rockwool can be used

if i wanted to use 3x2 flags like in this pic below


then i could have 2 cooling channels built into it 6" high x 9" wide one of the ends needs to spin around and return before lifting and coming up another level and again on another level or 1 brick high per level as thats 3" x 16" wide on a 20" flag plenty of air movement through each flag lift

so effective cooling would be 6ft x 2 per level of build concrete is cold so 3 levels gives 18ft of cooling each turn and lift causes turbulance

what i cant tell you is if the compressor would cause vibration on the structure if it does it should be minimum but users could build a 4" solid concrete top base easy enough
or double layer concrete flag or build it at the side of it as its used more as an air cooler

as those acoustic chambers can be built not at the side of a shed but in the roof of the apex roof of a shed build
