Crane fixed.
Turns out the traction drive shaft dog clutch had some rust/crap on the splined section, this was stopping the dog clutch arm reaching the end of its stoke, this was in turn stopping the slew dog clutch engaging, so some wd40 and hammer to free it off, then some engine oil to keep it free and we have a slewing crane.
So if we knew what was wrong initially, it would have taken 15 minutes max to fix it and not the good few hours we had spent on it!
Turns out it is a NCK Rapier from 1969, originally fitted with a 100ft boom and a 30ft fly jib, load tested between 5 and 40 tons, so I am guessing back in 69 it was a bit of a machine.
Turns out the bloke who helps me fix things down the club used to operate a crawler crane bolted to a barge, so thought you might like to see some pics of said barge.
Going by the pics I am guessing it was price work!
