Are these part of a Tom Senior Milling machine or not

Hi - as posted previously I have inherited some equipment and am trying to identify what everything is. It seems there is a debate about some pieces so if anyone with knowledge can let me know what the parts are and if they are for the Tom Senior milling machine ir maybe a lathe - that would be great. I know that previously a Harrison, a Hardinge and a Myford lathe were owned so it’s possible these bits came from something else. Items to be identified are the gears in the red tin photos. I measured one that had 32 teeth, the central hole is exactly 1 inch wide and the whole diameter is 2 and 3/4 inches. It is exactly 2cm deep. It looks like a complete set in the tin. The photo with the yellow metal measuring tape related to the items in the tin . I also found a whole set of different teethed gears ( I am guessing) all stored on a metal pipe. What are these and what machine do they belong to?. Anyone ?. Finally two random metal poles were found tucked at the back of the milling machine - are these parts of the machine to be used somehow or junk?. I don’t want to throw anything if they are if import. Thanks again for any expertise to look at these?

they should belong to your milling machine should be sold with it or sold as extras with the cutters

The bottom Left hand photo is gear hobs these are cutters to make gears with and they will all have different tooth shapes. In the bottom right picture there is a horizontal milling shaft, tha will fit the Tom Senior to make it into a horizontal mill, Where you could actually fit the gear cutters to and cut a gear or two, The Morse taper end fits into the column and is held in place by a drawbar.

The tin at top left looks like it contains a set of Myford changewheels.

Top left and top right are accessory gears for an entirely different machine. I seem to recall someone saying earlier which lathe it might be for. I still don't know if the chuck (bottom right, bottom left of picture) can be fitted to the mill (people concoct weird stuff soetimes) but it is unlikely and is definitely another lathe accessory.

The rest of the stuff in the bot right pic really ought to go with the mill, as well as the set of cutters. For example, the long shaft horizontal adapter probably needs the weird shape casting (bot right pic, top left item) to fit.

Does anyone know for sure what that thing is?

They ain't myford changewheels, size works out at 12DP. Probably for the long-departed Harrison or something else. The 1" bore is large for a lathe changewheel that size and they are a little fat too.

The cutters aren't hobs they are single tooth involute gear cutters. Hobs have multiple rows of teeth in a spiral. Some of them anyway there's a mix of regular cutters in there too.

Size works out at 12DP

They are 0.083" undersize for 12 DP. They are 0.073" oversize for MOD 2. So it might be better to obtain more precise measurements off the biggest one there before making any final conclusion.

To me, the unidentified 'thing' looks like some kind of 8-position adjustable stop, a little like a lathe bed stop. Scallpoed part of it for rotating it. If you zoom in on the photo, it has stamped numbers on the shiny bit near the head of the capscrews.

Thanks I will measure and give an accurate idea. Will post here to confirm. Someone mentioned they may belong to a Boxford ( ? If I recollect correctly) lathe . So the exact lathe is up for debate still.

Good call. It does look like a multi position adjustable stop now you mention it. Do you get those for milling machines?

You are quite right of course, I am blaming the drugs on that one.

I stand corrected, I don't know what possessed me to propose they were, I have never even owned a Myford, I was going by the colour of paint, not exactly scientific

If they were measured with the ‘measuring stick’ shown, measurements are likely to the nearest 50thou?

I've been talking to this very nice lady.

The gears are a mix of 14DP Harrison lathe gears and MOD2 gears for something else, probably some kind of Eastern Bloc lathe going by the tooth counts. 25mm bore and 20mm wide 2.0MOD teeth.

The 14DP gears are most definitely Harrison coz they have L5 cast in them same as @Machinery restorations Harrison gears. Dims are 7/8" bore 3/4" wide, from memory the tooth counts are 2x20, 2x24, 50, 80, 100. all the rest are MOD2.

My latest theory on the MOD 2 is they may be a Dividing Head gear set as there is a complete set

2 x 24, 28, 32, 40, 44, 48, 56, 64, 72, 86, 100 teeth.. Maybe from a European Lathe. It turns out that the things I inherited were partly lathe and partly milling machine parts and tooling. See better pic of the set stacked up,
