Hello every one, New member. Can Argoshield be used on a Tig for mild steel?
I understood from looking through the forum it cant, but the sales man at the my local BOC depo says it can.
Can someone clear this query up for me please.
Pretty sure the only reason pure argon rather than argoshield is used for TIG is to protect the tungston. It gets very hot and might tend to oxidise if any CO2 or oxygen were about. Not a problem for MIG as the wire only stays around in the gas for a fraction of a second.
You can always hire a bottle of Pureshield Argon for the TIG job & then sling it back when finished, that way you are only paying for the gas & a month or two rental.

Yeah it's a pain I know but that's the way it is I'm afraid; just got a BT phone bill for over £50 & I haven't used the land-line since year dot!
