Is it feasible to stick weld stainless mesh to a mild steel frame

Thinking something like this with 1mm wires

And attaching to a 10mm square mild frame for using to cook over fire.

Googling suggested E309 rods give the best chance of success.

I’m still learning to weld so not sure if it’s a daft thing to attempt to use stick for.

What size is the mesh wire?

I'd say not a chance with arc unless the mesh has very thick wire and you can get 1.6 rods.
Entirely possible with mig or better still tig.
309 wire will be fine for the job but you might get away with standard wire.

I've TIG welded 0.6 mig wire to 8mm bar and I'm not much of a welder.

why not put a saddle over the mesh and stick the saddles ,, bit of a fuss but leaves it doable with what you have.

Stainless steel pop rivets and a decent washer takes some pulling out too , if its fine mesh and the saddles wont fit ,,,

Cheers for the thoughts, a plan b may be in order. If fixing with rivets etc I’ll have to work out a way of beefing up the edges of the mesh as it’s woven.
The wires in the mesh will be 1mm, but sounds like I’d need to learn tig to have any hope

wrap the mesh round some flat bar , then rivet the whole lot on .

You could also fold a piece of light sheet steel or stainless in a u to frame the mesh, then hammer it tight.
If you are really fussy, you could use soft solder to fix the mesh securely in place in the frame.

Lots of machine guards are made that way (without the solder)

Will be for cooking over fires outside, it’s a try it to see what happens type project so if galvanic reactions eat the joints it’ll be a lesson learnt.

Would just chuck a rod in and give it a go.

It's not like it has to be critical etc.

a lot of these ideas all sort of vary on suitability depending on what your actually calling '' mesh'' that really could make some ideas better than others . Ive seen everything from fly screen to 10mm concrete reinforcing referred to as mesh.

Plan was Grade 4 mesh from the link in op, (1.2mm wire 5mm ish hole size)

Picture they sent was “this sort of thing but on legs”
