Auto-darkening helmets

Hi there, another noob here with another auto-darkening helmet question.

Although, i think its a new one?

I'm looking at buying a parweld helmet from here:

but it says it requires a minimum ampage of 40a? is this useless to use on car body panels with my pro 90 set at 28 then?

or am i being thick?

I've got one of those Parweld helmets and it darkens on the lowest setting of my Clarke 150TE so should be fine for you. BTW, it darkens from the lead light if you get too close to it or look directly at the light. Seems better with florescent workshop light from machine mart.

The parrweld is a really good helmet, I've been using them for four years. Don;t drop it on the floor or it may not darken anymore. That is a good price BTW, when I bought my last one it was £45.

I dont think youll have a problem with MIG or MA at low amps, but some of these cheap (and some expensive ones too) have a problem with low amps on DC tig welders,

illzlee ,many thanks for the link ,i offered £22 turned down,offered£25 recieved a counter offer from seller for £30.........i offered £27 and it was accepted i wonder as the auction goes on if people can get it even cheaper !worth a try .good luck

That's a cracking price mate, I'd get one myself but I've aleady got two auto darkeners so I don't really need another at the mo.

illzlee,i was being cheeky as is wozz!(thanks m8 ) rightly says i use a cheater lens (magnifying lens)on my normal shield for low amp tig work,so i am quite happy with the shield i have so i really wasn't bothered if seller told me no deal ,so i was extra cheeky in my bids ,i have seen the same helmet sell for a lot more so at £35 its a bargain,but i can manage without , i have to use standard headshield at work i don't wish to become reliant on auto darkening ,but i am curious !........i'm confident we will both be happy and again thanks for the link .....

Strange thing is, even tho I have an auto bucket, I still tend to use it as a normal bucket, up down, up down.........habit I suppose.

i can see me doing the same ....a few years back i strained my back ,the chiropractor struggled to click my neck back in place, every week she used to comment on welders having strong neck muscles from constantly "nodding" their mask down....
