auto drain and hot compressor

just fitted the auto drain to my bigger compressor as it is a pain to reach the drain tap, works well I wired it into the pressure switch so it only drains and counts time when the motor is running.

question how hot is normal for a compressor to be when running or after filling the tank?

this was hot too hot to touch is this normal? not noticed before as it is out of the way.

Yes the outlet pipe may get to hot to touch in under a minute.
EDIT> Our old hydrovane after a hot day you would hear the oil boil when you 1st turned it off at end of day.

glad that is normal then yes the copper fill pipe was hot as was the top of the piston cover where the oil is

It wasn't the V8 unit was it? I remember them continually overheating and tripping both the ambient air overheat alarms, and the oil temperature alarms in individual units.

That would normally go to the start switch to unload the pipe between the tank and pump on start up.

so it has an easier start I presume, wonder why it has been cut and plugged on the pipe end, maybe a fault on the pressure switch end. should one re connect it and see?

i could also try blowing down it first if it passes air I will be wasting my time
