I’m after an auto mask soon. Clarke CWH5 is 55 quid (vat free), and I guess is OK. There are quite a few cheaper ones on flea bay though. Any advice or recommendations please up to that budget? I did look through forum but didn't find anything recent. TIA, Brian
Have a look for Parweld masks. I think a number of members use them and seem to get along well with them or try PM'ing weldequip as I'm sure he does an auto mask in your price range.
Bought a Kempii Beta 90 helmet with fixed lens, £38 approx, then bought an auto darkening cartridge from www.rapidwelding.com for £32 approx (put auto darkening lens into the item search - could not get the link to work). So, for £70ish you have yourself a top notch really comfortable helmet, flip up screen with grinding lens behind. The Beta 90 is made to take an auto cartridge so its simply a matter of clipping it in and adding some packing pieces. The auto fixed at 11 may be a downer for some but works brilliantly for my car stuff.
I would recommend the new Parweld XR915H, this has the grinding function, 9 -13 variable shade, sensitivity and delay functions, I use one every day. For less than £50 you can't go wrong.
Woz, havn’t made my mind up myself yet. The Parwelds get good reviews but have just bought a Clarke 90en to start car bodyworks as a beginner and am running to budget limit. Will need regulator, gas and wire so the cheaper the helmet the better. Anyone recommend the SWP on the diywelding page. What are fixed shade autos like – a bit of a gamble I’d imagine?
