I went to view an aw 160 with a view to buy. I think the 160 is earlier than the 165 machines but by how much idk. Anyway I did a few weld tests but gleaning any info about the machine was difficult...the seller was legit but was not the original user and knew very little about it. It was a nice machine not abused fairly clean with a fairly recent replacement mb25 torch. VERY impressive smooth looking welds but I hit a problem on thin (1 mm) materials. With volts = 1 selected, and wire speed = 1 I needed less power and heat. So.....
1) I tried to select wire speed <1. Nope. Wire feed didn't work at all. Presumably that is to be expected?
2). Later on I realised that the mig wire diameter was huge. At home I normally use 0.6 but the wire on the autoweld was a LOT bigger possibly 1.0 or even bigger. So now I'm wondering what kind of difference a smaller wire would have made. Any users of AW machines here to enlighten me, what's your experience with welding thin material And on this machine would the roller even suit 0.6 wire ? Thanks!
