Axminster AWBDC30 (Belt Driven, 9CFM, 3HP) - Any Good?

I'm looking to purchase my first compressor for some spraying work which needs to be absolutely perfect (3 full size sheets of MDF). After that, the compressor will be used every-now-and-again for odd jobs such as sand-blasting, painting, etc.

I've been offered a used Axminster AWBDC30 for £200. It is:

- belt-driven,
- 3HP,
- 9 CFM FAD
- 100 Litres

a) Is the price good for this compressor?
b) Is 9 CFM FAD sufficient for painting? I've read that 12 CFM is recommended?
c) Will it cope with sandblasting should I ever need to do any?

Looks OK, has the typical undersized regulator on it but thats easily sorted. As long as the output is high enough for the spray gun you intend to use it should do the job.

Well that's the biggest size comp I can run on a 1 phase supply... Have you seen 3hp comp's with more than 9 FAD before?

In terms of the regulator, what do you mean by 'undersized'? And what would I need to purchase to improve upon this?

The regulator has a built in separator and doesn't look too bad. You can remove it and fit a PCL quick release fitting and use a regulator/separator in the airline nearer to where you are working. The compressor itself looks good but sandblasting is a bit optimistic.
