Bale spike modification

job I did a few weeks back. I had to make a bale spike into a dual purpose one bale spike / dung fork
I Mag drilled out the holes with a 52mm bit instead of using gas axe as I would require little or no clean up for welding

Those Magnetic Broach drills are a nice bit of kit.
I will be using one in the near future to dill out rivets on a canal boat.

Mag drill is a life saver
Just use plenty of cutting fluid it's the life of the cutters
I'm making a set of gates at the moment and I've drilled 150 27mm holes with the one cutter and its still the same as new

is this because you were drilling for spindles after fabbing up the outer frame ?

Drilled out all the flats across the gates so the bars run through them top to bottom

Good work on your part. But the customers are daft... - that (or any) muck grab won't work as well a dedicated bale spike as all the extra tines take more effort to push into the bale and again more effort to get out again, leading to more shunting and pushing bales around to get the damn things on and off! Also the middle tine could catch the net and bust it as it won't be in a bale but between them.
Guess how I know - my boss insists on using a muck grab and for bales it's utter ****, and can be so hard to get into the bales that you have to bring the top half down to hold them, making holes in the net wrap for water to then run into. He thinks he's saving money

The three new big tines and the two side ones will be removed for bale handling we only handle big squares no rounds for us

I should personally recommend buy in pre- punched or just do what I do and drill them on the drill press. Mag drills are great for putting onto stuff but they ain't pillar drills

don't have a drill press at moment so Mag drill it was and is very simple with a jig I made up
