Bandsaw & blades

Just a quick question.

Can you get metal cutting blades for any bandsaw?
The reason is you can get some realy cheap bandsaws but they all come with wood blades, I know now I have not got the room for a donkey saw so looking for a realy cheap alternative.

Metal cutting band saws run slower than those for wood. I have seen people modify a band saw with an external set of pulleys to reduce the speed.

You can cut aluminum on a regular band saw. Steel will melt the blade.

Depends on what you want to cut. Cones I suspect

A band saw would be the best thing to use but as shenion has said, they run a bit too fast for metal, esp Stainless Steel.

If it's for stock tube, bar, round etc then a bandsaw like this one would be much better, I was given a Machine mart version by the boss last year, and although it's slow, it does a very good job. I just leave it to get on with it. I cut through a 4" piece of round bar the other day, and only had to take off .3mm in the lathe to face the end off

Whatever you get, i think a few people have got blades from Dragon saws and reckon they are ok. Plus they are only in Ystrad Mynach.

Yep main reason is for cutting cones as I play over time, got lots of ideas playing in my mind and different ways I would like try to improve technique's. Never would do stainless for it.

A donkey saw would be ideal BUT not enough room. The 12 1/2 x 6 1/2 foot shed ive re'skined / doubble skined has come up tops. Got most of my shelfs, worktops, lathe in, storage etc done and can still roll the RD350 in the middle, realy shocked how much room I had but still not quite enough for everything. Got an old Green house now to pull down and build into a storage shed for the bikes.

It dont look like much now but here is some of the work I have done over the past couple of weeks, around 140 foot fence, Kennel, log fence deviders with gate, large 4 1/2 x 6 foot gate ( was a nightmare running on extention lead, welding came out like bird poo )
