Quick question for any bandsaw experts out there - my woodcutting bandsaw has been converted to metal using a worm gearbox, 3 phase motor and Chinese vsd. I've kept the single phase motor, mounted below the new stuff, so the swap back to wood is a simple belt change.
As bought, this old thing had the band running on the mounting (the outer) face of upper and lower bearings, there were ony three brass alignment blocks, and the back of the band had worn a slot in the channel of the bronze lower guide. I've worked out that the band should be running on the edge of the bearings, so I'm in the process of setting it all up so that this is correct.
My question is concerning the guide blocks - how thick should they be - should they be the full width of the band (less the teeth)? Or can they be a few mm narrower without loss of accuracy? I guess I know the answer, but any useful experiences would be good.
