Bar colour codes

I am turning a bit of bar i have that i thought was cast Iron as its black and has a red paint streak along its length. Its not turning like CI though, long strings of swarf and not much black dust on the tool tip. Any idea what it is ?

Hells nadgers, thats a bit thick.

Yellow is EN8 from Acton but it's green if you buy from smiths etc
