Hi Richard ive been reading tig welding threads. Mild steel pretty easy. done some stainless "external corner" .6mm using a pedal started with the amps too high but did a short run autogenous "not too bad"

But ali is a different ball game finally worked out where i was going wrong "torch angle" too low so melted the filler before i got it in the puddle done a couple of autogenous external corners that are not too bad at all

I'm thinking of getting a tig pen

Sounds good I like tig welding.
Autogenous Alu doesn't really work too well most of the time due to it's nature of running away. Have you got your own machine

Maybe because of lack of knowledge i explained it wrongly "i just welded with no filler" the only machine is the welder

I found the ali hard because of the noise of the welder on ac rather than on dc, takes a bit of getting used too

You explained it correctly. Autogenous is without filler. I was just saying that welding aluminium without filler doesn't work well. Because it conducts heat so well and has such a low melting point you need filler to stay ahead of it. Good luck with it though and I look forward to seeing the results on the tig section.
