Belt Driven Compressor oil

Hi Everyone,

I have gotten a compressor from my father as he is not using it anymore. The instruction manual has been lost. It is a 3HP 200L belt Driven. From the images below there is a red cap nearest the fan guard. I don't know what this is for. Opposite to this is the cap for the compressor oil and there is a glass thing at the bottom so you can see the oil level. Back to the cap nearest the belt guard. I am wondering is this for oil for the pulley and if so what type of oil goes in it and how much. I have looked into it with a torch and can't see any trace of oil.

What make & model is it?

Hi,

The make is Logan. The model number on it is v-0.25/8. I suspect that it is a Chinese brand. There is no manufacturers name on the pump.

When you look down the hole can you see anything moving when the compressor runs?

Google v-0.25/8, there's some strong hints it may be Chinese

Yes can see something moving down the hole when the compressor is moving so suspect that some type of oil is needed.

I also suspect the compressor is chinese made.

The cap near the fan looks like a breather, the other red cap might be the filler as it looks easier to get at. Get some 30 grade compressor oil and is there a line on the sight glass to fill to otherwise fill it to the top of the sight glass after you drain the old oil out.

There is a line on the sight glass so I can fill it to that mark. Also the cap near the belt guard, if that is a breather what is it's purpose.

The line could be the minimum mark, like the dot on my Clarke compressor, with the full mark being the top of the sight-glass.

On the compressor that I have through the sight glass there is a line and a red dot in the middle of it. I assumed that once the oil is at that mark then it was okay. Must check that.
