Bench grinder stand

I had my two grinders mounted on a steel frame that I could drag around the workshop, a bit of a faff as it would vibrate on my uneven floor.
So remembering something I saw on this site years back I made this.


Job done, no more vibratins and easier to move around.

I thought just the same, made me shudder. Can't be losing you chunk

There was air in the tyre, enough to keep it on the rim, and I did use a shield to keep spatter off the tyre.

i got my grinder on a stand bolted to the floor. i dont need to move mine around the garage. ill get sime pics up.

i made a removable dip that hangs on it to quench whatever im grinding.

I was always taught never to quench anything you were grinding, so as not to ruin the temper....

When grinding anything thats been tempered as long as you keep the temperature well down and quench often to prevent heat building up i'v never had a problem. but for putting an edge back on a cold chisel etc I prefer to use a file,

I have ben making to make a dip tray for cooling small items, no need to worry about tempering this would jut be for shaping corners etc.
two holes and a small tin hanging off them seems a bit obvious, why did i not think of that before?

That tyre won't get hot on the grinder stand.

I wouldn't put one under a torch-cutting table, but those little bench grinders throw small sparks that cool off almost instantly.

wrong end of the stick casement.
I mean for cooling small components down when I am shaping them to avoid scorching my poor fingers.

I have a space saver wheel and tyre here I've been planning to use as a grinder stand, glad I saw this thread before I started it

Chunko, do you have any issues with your stand being top heavy with two grinders on? I was thinking of bolting a couple of old brake discs to the wheel to give it a bit of weight in the base.

Balance not a sign of a problem, the rubber on the tyre also acts as a vibration damper, not part of my plan but a nice feature.
I think being blown up is highly unlkely, each weld took about 15 seconds, if that and they are a long way from the tyre, in the film clip they were welding for a lot longer, on a much bigger tyre at a much higher pressure, but definitely one to be aware of.

I made one a long time ago with just a single upstand and a 5mm plate on top for a single grinder. The tyre had no air in it at all and never needed any it was just to add weight and stability.
