bender for square box bending

well ive had this for a while got it nice and cheap enough so thought id give it a go as its my first time bending with one

all measurements are created just to create a bend in box section without folding the box section

joes phone pic is someone elses and im going to post mine up there as thats what was requested

the others are garden shots of the bender as i changed my mind on the over hang on the wall outside my property and fastened it to the wall using coach bolts as need to mow lawn afterwards without spikes sticking up out of the wall

also you will see ive used the compact bender to create the shape using 3/4 mdf wood

this is the info from the poster of the red bender i am grateful for his info and once ive made mine up will post mine up as well

Ok lever is 28 inches long, cut a 3 inch piece of the round bar and weld it to the bottom of the handle at a 90 degree. Radius piece is made from the 1 inch flat it is 2 ft long. Bend it as far as you can then make the 2 ends touch and weld it together. The supports for the radius are 6 inches long, cut 2 of then from the 1 &1/2 flat bar weld them to the outside edges of the radius, find the center and drill it out, use your 3/4 inch bit here, if you don't have one use the 5/8 and grind the 3 inch piece welded on the lever handle to fit through the hole

Cut the front support at 5 inches out of the 1 &1/2 cut a piece 6 inches and weld on top for a strength support. Weld to the front of the bender

Then cut your horizontals which are gonna be 6 &3/4 from the 1 &1/2 material, cut 2 of these then cut a small section from the 3/4 its going to be a roller for the material to slide against I welded some 3/8 inch shafts and drilled into the flat assembled it together and weld it to the 8 inch verticals. Last thing to do is make the piece that holds the material your bending cut sections from the 1 inch material. Make it a little tall. Drill through the top weld the nut and insert the bolt

Mine is only made to bend up to 1 inch material cause that all I need to bend for these carts but you cM make yours as big or small as you need. To bend whatever your needs are. The wider the better. If anyone follows and makes one you should post pictures up

yeah thats it but my intention seen as i have the bending machine is to use the formers within it as i have the bar and the extender bar on the bending machine

as ive copied the design the vice version which is what i was wanting is named pensacola 2 bender



all made from scrap 2x1 angle iron, 1,1/2 5mm bar, 1,1/2 square tube

though not finish yet as needs the square to hold the metal to the bender and also the back stop to press against while bending the box section around the bender

no bulging from the side walls? Did you not collapse the inside of the bend to compensate for it? I've been looking into these for some time; plenty available in the US, but not in UK... like lots of things I guess...

There is no real strength on that top course of block.
Careful you don't pull the lot out and do an injury mate.

jules beds the bender creates a bend of 3" without the internal colapse which is what i was wanting if i want a sharper bend i can use my bender whilst inserting a rod to colapse the box section

ive got to try it on steal box section but as you see my vice isnt fastened to anything at moment thoe my bender is already for usage with a vice ive just drilled it to concrete wall insert is in the soft ground behind wall

first off im going to see how it does before i make the 2" bar version of it
