bigger pump

Hi guys,ive got a compressor that ive had about a year/18 months,it works great for an old-un,only problem is,is that it takes a while to fill the tank,now the question is.....
Ive been given a newer/bigger pump,but the i think the belt wheel is on the wrong side to the original,or should i say the inlet and filter is on the wrong side,being new to a big compressor how would i go about fitting it now

the problem you have is the motor probably wont be powerful enough, if the new one is twin cylinder it will probably need a 3HP motor, as for swapping the inlet round you could probably turn the head and valve plate around

the newish pump is in the other photo snooper,i would be wrong in thinking that i could put the filter on the otherside wouldnt i,because the inlet and outlet would be back to front ????

no it wasnt there at first , just unbolt the head and turn everything around but make sure it is everything above the cylinders

ok mate great stuff,ill swap it around over the weekend then,just need to find a bigger belt now then for it....thanks for your help snooper.
just another quick question if you don't mind me bending your ear lol,sometimes (but not always) when its filling the tank,it'll cut out before its full,so i have to manually press the start button again,even though its fires up and starts pumping straight away its still a pain in the **** when im in the pit or otherside of the workshop,,,,whats the cause of this and is it an easy fix buddy ?

not really some of the big old ones were small power wise and if thats the case the motor will struggle and may stall as pressure builds and may not start at all once it tries to kick back in after a pressure drop so you may need a new 3hp motor aswell

Just to throw something into the works.

Do you have to consider the displacement of the pump and its revs and the displacement of the larger pump and what it's revs would be

The smaller pump that is fitted now, has a smaller wheel, so for example if the pump turns at 500 rpm, and is 100 cc displacement, then we have 50 litres.

If the bigger pump is 200cc displacement but will only turn at 250rpm then this is still 50 litres per minute and would there be any benefit, To get a benefit one may well need to have a more powerful motor and larger pulley on it as well.

You would need effective diameters of pulleys, displacement of the two pumps, (If marked on them), speed of the motor etc to work it out.

I would say that is a 1425 rpm motor 220/240 Volts and 7.1 Amps. Around 2.25 HP.
