Bike rack

Hi all, I have a job I'm quoting for, it's a bike rack made in 60mm x 20mm flat bar. There will likely be 10 sections. I have attached some design pics + some pics of a sample fold.

Each foot will have 2 fixing holes. What size studding would you recommend? I'm wondering of 16mm stainless studding 100mm deep with shear nuts will be good enough?

And does anyone know a good supplier of shear nuts? From a quick Google, 16mm galv shear nuts seem to be circa £1.50 each!!!???

whats it fixing to ? tarmack dout it would hold as the lenth of bar gives a large leaverage point

im sure someone on here could do the calcs

add a 3rd leg to one of the sides would help ?

If the bays were connected at ground level where I have highlighted it should Improve stability but have little impact on the overall design.

Could you not have longer "feet" oriented F-R under the upper loop?
That way ground anchors would have much more strength in the axis where anyone might try to pull them over/off?
(Having 2 feet opposite means that you'd have strength in any direction)?

That’s probably a slightly more practical version of my suggestion

As above ,also put the m16 in 150+ with a big square washer at the bottom of the thread for greater pull out resistance.

I wouldn’t want to weld the feet directly under the legs or that’d ruin the look of the flowing flat bar.

I was thinking more along those lines yes (though my mind's image had both feet facing the loop, though yours does the same job I'd imagine).
Almost a case of "the bigger the better with the feet perhaps, simply to counteract the big leverage forces that can be applied to the loop by a couple of hefty wannabe bike thieves (let alone a thief with a vehicle and a tow rope)?

(My thinking is that you don't want your bike store to be the weakest link. If it could be pulled out/over easily, then a bike lock could be just pulled over one leg & the bike whipped away c/w lock on, to be removed at leisure. The other more hassle option is extended legs designed to be sunk into the ground & set in concrete).

Nothing will do more than slow down an organised, determined and blatant thief, only beating the half-baked opportunist.

The best solution would be to concrete the feet deep below ground level and then pave the surface after the racks have been installed, that would give them a very sleek look.
